Alamogordo Optimist Club to host the First Annual Polar Bear Ride and Drive

The Alamogordo Optimist Club is hosting The Polar Bear Ride and Drive on February 11, 2012 to raise funds for its Childhood Cancer Campaign and will provide funds to help pay the medical expenses of childhood cancer victim Julie Wolfe and other projects that benefit the Children of Otero County.  The ride will be a Poker Ride with five stations: beginning at the Alamogordo Cycle Center, Three Rivers Trading Post and Gallery, the Valley of Fire, the Tularosa Travel Center and back to the Alamogordo Cycle Center.  At each station along the route riders will receive a playing card, and the high hand will win a cash prize.  This is the first time that the Alamogordo Optimist Club will host the Polar Bear Ride and Drive and they hope that this can become an annual event.  Convertible owners and antique car drivers are welcome to participate.  The entry fee for the ride is $40.00 per bike or car and will include a BBQ Brisket Lunch for two people ($10.00 per additional passenger or rider).  The ride will begin and end at the Alamogordo Cycle Center, 21070 US Highway 70. Registration starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 10:00 AM with last participants on the road by 10:00 AM.  The BBQ Brisket Lunch will be provided by Alamogordo Cycle Center.  The Polar Bear Ride and Drive is sponsored by First National Bank, The Three Rivers Trading Post Gallery, The Tularosa Travel Center, and Burt Broadcasting.  In the event of inclement weather, the ride will be held on February 18.

Letter of Commendation to the Taos Optimist Club

To All:
As was previously reported, Ron Perkins, President of Skyline Optimist Club, had a major
Medical setback. About an hour ago, I got a call from his daughter who stated that he is
OK, but not out of the Woods. His Doctors recommend that he have as many visitors
as possible. They stated that the more people that visit him - the better he will be.
He is in Triumph Health Center ( I think is is now called Kindred Hospital). Room 1013. The
Hospital is located at 1740 Curie St.  If you have any spare time, please visit him.
Please contact as many individuals as possible and let them know about Ron.
Many Thanks
YIO

MILE HIGH OPTIMIST CLUB'S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS

The Past Pres Dispenser

I’m Back.

You can't get rid of me that easily.

Well, it’s almost ‘Christmas at the bus/train station’ time again.  Pat T. is already in stress mode.  But isn't that what the holidays are all about?

Anywho, we're looking for donations of gift bag stuffing's for the bus/train kids.  So, if you would like to help (or know of some one or organization who would), these K through 8 kids would really appreciate getting something for Christmas.

Pat requests that donations be made before second weekend of Dec.

Monetary donations will magically be turned into toys.

Contact Pat for delivery or me for pickup.

Thanks to the club for being All Aboard.

Past Pres. Leland

RATON'S INSTALLATION
This is a big deal, since there really has not been a functioning Club in Raton for several years. But though the hard work and diligence of Lt Gov Suzann Owens there is now a slate of Club Officers Installed and I am sure we will be hearing much more about Raton in the Months to come. GREAT JOB SUZANN!!   Now we will be waiting to hear that Raton wants to host a District Conference in the no too distant future.

Here's our installation photo.  Top left, Raton Optimist Club President Ernest Brown; top right prospective member Teena Reif; bottom left Board of Directors member April Silva Gomez; bottom right Club Secretary/Treasurer Desiree Silva.

SEPTEMBER WAS......

CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!!

BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS A MAJOR PROGRAM NOW!!

They ride tricycles in the hallway, not in the park. They know the names of their chemo's instead of their classmates. Their central lines have names. Nurses and doctors are their new family. They think hair is over rated! Their laughter can make a heart melt! Their strength will make a grown person cry! If you've ever seen a kid fight cancer, it will change your life forever!!
